Would I lie to you? — a linguistic-fiction freewrite event with Kate Copeland ($25)
Storytelling faces an idea of truth - to paraphrase Susan Sontag - yet, it is also connected with an idea of invention, imagination, lies. In this 90 minute workshop, we will talk SECRETS & LIES, and fuse fiction with non-fiction…for real! Linguistics will reveal beliefs on deceptive verbal and non-verbal communication, whilst candidly diving into context and cultures. Fiction-wise, we will explore art by Taryn Simon, the Fleabag and Barbie scripts, and poems by Ester Naomi Perquin & Shira Stav [a.o.]. After the workshop, you will receive a muse document with all sorts of extras … for now, just practice this Carly Simon-singalong: We have no secrets, we tell each other everything!
Kate Copeland’s love for languages led her to linguistics & teaching; her love for art & water to poetry. She is curator-editor for The Ekphrastic Review and runs linguistic-poetry workshops for IWWG. Find her poems @ https://www.instagram.com/kate.copeland.poems/ plus @ TER, WildfireWords, Gleam, Hedgehog Press [a.o.]. Kate was born in harbour-city, and adores housesitting in the world.
